Job Description

Position Summary

The Materials Manager is accountable for the purchasing, receiving, and inventory control processes for the building facility. Materials Managers implement and ensure vendor relations in accordance with the needs of production. Materials Managers work with the leadership team to ensure proper inventory levels and product supply.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Attend staff meetings with General Manager
  • Communicate with the Sales Department and Production on any specific changes on issues / orders
  • Supervise two direct reports and two indirect reports
  • Bring in materials from alternate sources if required to keep plant departments operational
  • Check on deliveries and review any issues with head of receiving, review in-transit reports
  • Review invoices, damaged / obsolete materials, and scrap tickets
  • Maintain vendor relations
  • Review change orders
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Attend and participate in Plant meetings
  • Review transaction report, Retailer Parts schedule, packing slip file, and supplier invoices over 30 days
  • Review and approve employee purchase requests
  • Prepare debit memos for returns and adjustments and keep computerized log
  • Review PO discrepancy report and purchase price variant report
  • Maintain damaged, obsolete, and slow-moving inventory file for home office and submit as required
  • Review Production detail report
  • Weekly Manager's Quality Walk
  • Maintain cost deck in AS400 - new parts requests, part number changes, pricing, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Participate in monthly conference call with Materials Managers
  • Submit reports as requested by home office purchasing department
  • Determine monthly wire requirements and submit to home office
  • Update raw material, BOM, and review report
  • Review transaction report, Operation Material Status report, Options Listing, and P& L report
  • Update Option BOMs as required
  • Inter-company transfers
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Coordinate physical inventory and submit on timely basis
  • Budget process with general manager and leadership team
  • Explain inventory variances from Physical to Book upon request by accounting
  • Review Plant Asset report
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Complete performance and development reviews
  • Assist in acquiring new materials for annual show and material samples for dealers
  • Supplier ratings based upon six specified criteria
  • OSHA and Waste Water Management training
  • Attend Materials Manager conference
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Microsoft Office skills, advanced proficiency with Excel
  • Leadership skills and ability to communicate effectively as a member of plant leadership team
