The Home Building Group is actively searching for a Department Manager to join the team at our Albuquerque, NM facility.

POSITION SUMMARY 

The Department Manager role will utilize a leadership approach to lead and coach team members in achieving plant objectives and to help meet or exceed customer requirements and production demands. The department manager will focus on advancing the plant’s vision of growing careers while building a better life, one home at a time. 
Strong leadership skills a must.

The ideal candidate should have:

  •  Excellent attendance and be able to work overtime when necessary
  • Supervise, plan and direct the work of the hourly personnel in its department to achieve scheduled production deadlines according to quality standards
  • Have a positive attitude and solid work ethic

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee Team Members development and training
  • Provide direct/specific feedback to team members regarding strengths, development needs
  • Recommend to production manager promotions, transfers, hire or discharge of personnel
  • Coach team members to complete their work effectively and efficiently
  • Assist team members in connecting their work to the overall vision of the plant
  • Enforce policies consistently and fairly
  • Monitor the KPIs (Key Performance Indicators)
  • Manage/coach team members to ensure optimal safety, quality, and productivity standard
  • Provide weekly training on Installation Instruction or D.A.P.I.A.
  • Assure the achievement of daily production quotas
  • Improve and maintain positive/effective team communication
  • Ensure fair and equitable treatment of all personnel
  • Educate team members on how pay is calculated
  • Assist in the control and orderly storage of materials
  • Ensure and promote team member safety throughout the plant
  • Maintain areas under its supervision in a clean, well-organized and safe condition
  • Verify that all team members receive proper equipment, and personal protective equipment
  • Provide weekly Safety Training on a chosen safety topic
  • Assume primary responsibility for minimization of scrap and damaged material
  • Assure that all units are built as designed and specified
  • Assure that tool control is maintained daily
  • Manage quality of product to ensure “World Class” vision

Skills, Knowledge Required:

  • Must have strong leadership skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Collaborative nature
  • Good understanding of the home building process
  • Complete knowledge of D.A.P.I.A requirements
  • Ability to interpret work orders to ensure houses are built correctly
  • Traveler and BOSS accuracy
  • Ability to read and explain blueprints
  • Daily line roll schedule
  • Ability to describe specs of various materials and why each is utilized

Complete understanding of plant operations/improvement initiatives:

  • Overtime policy and impact
  • Causes and predictors of turnover
  • Departmental impact on service cost

Complete knowledge of the assigned product line including:

  • Operations
  • Procedures
  • Products
  • Terminology
  • Quality Standards
  • Equipment

Experience Desired:

  • Leadership, management experience a must
  • Construction or manufacturing experience preferred 

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Basic Computer Skills, to include Microsoft (Word, Excel, & PowerPoint)
  • Have basic mathematical and measurement skills
  • Have effective English communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Bilingual (English-Spanish preferred, but not necessary
