Assistant Production Manager - Bonham, TX

General Expectations:

Responsible fordirecting and coordinating the activities of assigned production departmentswith the assistance of the Area Managers and Team Leaders. The AssistantProduction Manager will provide constant communication, coaching, feedback,guidance, development and recognition to all TM’s to promote good Team Memberrelations, engagement and morale.

Delivery:

Safety/ISO:

  • Enforce Clayton’s safety culture by adhering to and enforcing

People Building/Performance Management:

  • Team member feedback and growth
  • Ensure timeliness and completion of all team Member Evaluations
  • Support onboarding experience – work with TMX Technical trainer and TM on learning & onboarding plan, ensuring growth and Gap assessment development weekly with plan review with TMX/Trainers
  • Ensure timeliness and accuracy of communication - Communicate the significance of the data on Communication Center slides daily during huddles, making sure to take note of follow ups for TM’s
  • Coach, correct and counsel team members. Utilize the progressive discipline investigation and documentation process effectively in partnership with TMX
  • Ensures all TM and plant policies are followed and executed for consistency of application

Quality:

  • Read and verify production schedule to Travelers – ensure right the first-time build planning is completed for each production area with Area Coordinators and their direct teams
  • Ensure traveler is inspected and signed correctly
  • Enforce the “Zero Defect/Zero Rework BOSS program. All defects must be addressed in station
  • Ensure defects are corrected by the root Team Member to teach & eliminate repeat occurrences
  • Complete all required Quality incident investigations and follow up actions to completion/prevention

Productivity:

  • Prepare the run schedule plan with the Area Coordinators by area – preparing for the week day
  • Read all orders and review prints – plan & prepare your team for successful runs the day before
  • Schedule review
  • Materials review and plan
  • Labor plan - skills and abilities build plan assignments
  • Schedule build call outs by area – ex: flex builds planning
  • Make all line rolls
  • Complete all Inspections accurately and timely
  • Ensure Team work amongst leadership team (*labor shift)
  • Proper response to Gateway & BOSS requests and mitigation to RCA

Housekeeping:

  • Ensure clean department(s)
  • Support and Involvement in ISO14001 initiatives (recycling program)
  • Ensure Tool lockers and work stations must be “Clayton Clean” and organized

Teamwork:

  • Empower team members by delegating strength-based tasks. Teach and Coach; don’t do the work
  • Enforce “Move with Purpose” philosophy to hit line rolls consistently
  • Promote a spirit of teamwork within and across departments. We win as a team; we lose as a team, make all plant team bonus efficiency initiatives

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Direct and coordinate manufacturing to work effectively with and actively communicate with the Safety, Quality Assurance, and Production Planning
  • Works closely with the PM and TMX Mgr to determine the manpower levels necessary to meet the production schedule in an efficient manner
  • Works closely with the PM evaluating the plant layout and efficiencies, quantifying if any changes or improvements are worthy of recommendation based on an economic justification
  • Assist the Area Coordinators with technical support and advice on the proper handling of manufacturing and personnel opportunities
  • Review the tardiness and absenteeism with the Area Coordinators and assign utility workers to ensure efficient utilization of labor and to ensure the production line remains balanced and on schedule
  • Verify that every department has completed their production for the day and the plant is clean and orderly per the end of the day requirements
  • Make frequent departmental inspections to make sure that quality standards are being maintained, materials are being stored and handled properly, and scrap/damaged materials are being properly recorded and monitored
  • Maintain daily contact with Area Coordinators, Team Leaders and team members to evaluate any opportunities and encourage two-way communication between team members and Supervision and offer appreciation for team member efforts
  • Review the condition of plant equipment for safety and maintenance requirements and report any deficiencies to the Production Manager. Any expenditure for new or improved equipment must be approved by the Production Manager
  • Conduct weekly meetings with Area Coordinators to review their progress with the Quality Team and Safety Team
  • Maintain a high level of integrity, both personal and professional, to set a good example for all team members

Education and Qualifications:

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 10 years relevant experience
  • At least 5 years of previous experience in construction
  • Experience in manufacturing is preferred
  • 5 years of progressive leadership development experience with managing 20+ production team members and respective area leadership
  • Ability to develop and follow established processes
  • Autonomous leadership capability
  • Continuous Improvement mindset
