Safety Manager - Wakarusa, IN

General Expectations:

The Safety Manager is accountable for the safety functions for the manufacturing location. Implements and ensures compliance with safety and safety training activities and programs intended to create a safe and healthful workplace. Use proven methods for identifying and eliminating hazards and reducing accidents.  Influences plant APM, Area Coordinators, Team Leaders, and Team Members to improve plant’s safety efforts. Works with ISO Coordinator with respect to safety and training programs as required. Monitor and maintain safety and health programs for plant team members. Safety Manager is expected to set a good example and uphold quality, safety, work pace, attitude. Also with a good understanding of the following:

1. Company SAFETY protocols and standards
2. Company LEAN organizational structure and housekeeping standards
3. Governmental laws and regulations
4. Company policies and rules
5. Understand Workman’s’ Compensation
6. Trainings for entire plant and departmental trainings as well. 
7. Caring for team member experience as it relates to injuries and overall welfare 

Duties / Responsibilities:

1. Conduct and complete Accident Investigation report with injured team members, Area Coordinator and Team Leader or Manager after completing thorough investigation.
2. Ensure post-accident drug screens are completed as required. 
3. Maintain OHSA 300 Log record keeping.
4. Administer the company’s Return-to-Work program including the transitional employment terms.
5. Report to Home Office Safety Manager monthly reporting numbers; (OHSA entries for previous month, Lost Time Accident and OHSA streaks in number of days)
6. Maintain active involvement in teams’ safety committee functions by coordinating monthly meetings and inspections, ensuring recording of minutes, and coordination of changes based on committee feedback and inspection results. 
7. Walk through Zurich personnel during scheduled visits and complete a written plan of action within 30 to 45-days, as identified on Zurich letter on corrective action taken or action plan when it will be corrected. 
8. Walk through Fortier personnel during scheduled visits with the help of the AC’s complete all corrective action plans within 30 days or less. 
9. Conduct regular safety meetings with Area Coordinators and Team Leaders to review and discuss each groups accidents and injuries. Identify ways to prevent re-occurrences of accidents by re-engineering, changing the process or providing personal protective equipment. 
10. Conduct inspecting facilities to detect existing or potential safety hazards and make recommendations regarding corrective action or preventative measures to management. 
11. Ensure compliance with all applicable OHSA standards and regulations.
12. Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations such as: Hazardous Communication, Lockout/Tag out, Blood Borne Pathogens, Hearing Conservation, Emergency Evacuation Plans, etc., utilizing the ISO Manager as a resource. 
13. Ensure compliance with company policy and procedures relating to Fall Protection, Line Roll, Hitch Lock, Hot Works, Suspended Loads, Saw Safety, etc. 
14. Participate in and follow-up on the investigation of work-related injuries/illnesses, on-the-job accidents, or near misses as required. 
15. Complete Near Miss and/or Loss Time Accident Root Cause Analysis reports and send to Home Office Director of Safety and Home Office Safety Manager.
16. Administer Hearing Conservation Programs.
17. Ensure the first aid supply cabinet is properly stocked and maintained.
18. Ensure team members who are First Responders are trained in: First Aid, CPR, and AED and are certified by State and Federal laws as required. 
19. Work with ISO Manager to maintain current SDS (Safety Data Sheets) master binder. Provide individual binders for the designated teams in manufacturing facility for tracking materials.
20. Develop and conduct required OSHA training programs on plant work practices, safety precautions and procedures as required. 
21. Safety and Health Manual requires updating, ensuing procedures are consistent with written programs. Make necessary changes as needed and keep the team informed.
22. Maintain team member’s records for all completed safety training. 
23. Ensure all forklift, tractor, and other associated powered industrial trucks operators are effectively trained and licensed to operate safely as required by OHSA and applicable State and Federal Laws. 

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required:

1. Conduct effective safety training. 
2. Knowledge of all applicable OHSA standards and regulations is a plus
3. Compliance and/or regulatory background or transferable experience preferred
4. Ability to strictly uphold and facilitate procedures and policies 
5. Communicating clearly and constructively at all levels of the organization

Education and Qualifications:

1. High school diploma or GED
2. Safety training and / or experience is preferred
3. Production environment experience
4. Certification relating to manufacturing codes and standards is a plus
5. 5 years minimum in Safety Manager experience
