The Home Building Group is actively searching for a Design Engineer to join the team in Maryville, TN.


As a member of the Home Building Group the Design Engineer will work to support our 40 manufacturing facilities. The primary focus will be for Research and Development, implementation of new automation, material handling, and production processes, as well as improvement of current processes, to increase efficiencies and reduce the effort of labor-intensive processes.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with vendors, consultants, and other R&D companies for development and implementation.
  • Develop and design tools, jigs, flow racks, and miscellaneous improvement items to resolve production problems and improve efficiencies.
  • Support special projects such as productivity improvements, defect reduction, capacity improvements, changeover reduction, and area layouts.
  • Periodic training and benchmarking trips to affiliated companies.
  • Ability to complete capacity, capability, and forecasting studies.
  • Developing weekly/daily executive KPI reports.
  • Collects, manages and evaluates process data for improvement initiatives.
  • Independently works to solve process/system problems without management direction.
  • Uses standard problem-solving tools, past practices, and associate input to improve processes.


  • Mechanical or Industrial Engineering degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Experience with designing and building electromechanical systems and PLC/robotics programming a plus.
  • Ideal candidate will have a positive attitude and be highly motivated towards understanding production processes.
  • Must be flexible and able to multi-task as priorities change.
  • Estimated travel will be up to 50% with the remaining time split between the office and local facilities.
  • Will be involved in multiple project at the same time.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point) and Autocad or SolidWorks.
  • Self-directed with good organizational and communication skills.
  • Analytical ability to study current system, identify problems, and create improvement plans.
  • Able to influence management on proposed improvement initiatives.
